Honestly with looking at how the entertainment industry is heading I see large scale piracy operations becoming a bigger deal in the coming years. They would love to get a legitimate version but when you can get the pirated copy that works for 1/100th of the price and not deal with any of the other hoops it is a no brainer. In many of these countries the legitimate price of a single game is close to the entire monthly pay for many residents. Now you have high quality telecines for brand new movies coming out of China and Russia again, serving a market that they are not. They attempted to deal with it by releasing their own telecines into the market at a competitive price which worked for quite some time, until they stopped.

Well piracy has always flourished in certain parts of the world and still does, for example movie and television piracy in much of Asia and the Middle East is huge business due to Hollywood basically treating that part of the world as unimportant.

With companies being incredibly short sighted in looking for short term profits in first world markets and going to destroy the healthy legitimate software market in much of the third world.

The sad thing is I can see the rise of things like Denuvo create a new demand for PC game piracy and again cause money to come into the scene destroying the hard work that was put in to curb piracy in much of the world. You have seen such "P2P" groups like 3DM and the like come up in the wake but these groups have their own agendas and questionable safety. You soon saw financial support dry up and talented people who would work on game piracy left for more lucrative opportunities either in legal development/security or in other parts of piracy. Over the last 5 years especially you have seen internet reach those areas and with the rise of not only P2P services but regional pricing on services such as Steam has caused the downturn in the pirated markets. In particular you had a lot of money coming in from Russia, Asia and the Middle East as the pirated software market in those regions were huge and internet propagation had not reached those markets in wide. 10-15 years ago you had various groups giving payment in either hardware or money in assistance in exchange for games to be cracked. The number one reason why the games scene has died is due to the lack of money in it anymore. Government Raids/Crackdowns is propaganda by anti-piracy groups to further their agendas but one can say that is false due to the other parts of the scene (movies, software, music, etc) still continuing without a hitch. Much of the game piracy scene has died in the last decade due to a multitude of reasons. (keep in mind Razor hardly releases anything these days, and when they do, this happens.
